Featured items and promo cards

Highlight dishes with featured slots, and promote specials with repositionable promo cards.

Featured slots let you highlight specific dishes or images on your menu. They appear as a visual carousel or grid above your regular sections, and they're a great way to showcase signature items, seasonal specials, or chef's picks.

Featured slots are template-dependent. If your template supports them, you'll find the Featured Slots section in Menu Settings (right sidebar).

Each featured slot can reference a menu item or contain a standalone image:

  • Item reference: Link a slot to an existing menu item. The slot automatically uses the item's name, price, and photo.
  • Standalone image: Upload a custom image (e.g., a lifestyle photo, a seasonal promotion graphic) with an optional caption.

To add or manage featured slots, use the Featured Slots editor in your Menu Settings panel. The number of available slots and their layout (row or grid) is defined by your template.

Tip: Use featured slots for your best sellers

Featured slots get the most visual attention on your menu. Use them for high-margin dishes, seasonal specials, or items you want to sell more of.

Promo cards

A promo card is a dedicated callout block that appears within your menu layout. It's great for happy hour deals, prix fixe specials, or seasonal promotions.

If your template supports promo cards, you'll see a Promo Card block in the Structure panel on the left side of the editor. The block appears among your menu sections and can be toggled on or off with a switch.

Only one promo card can be active per menu.

Promo card fields

When the promo card is enabled, the following fields appear inline within the Structure panel:

  • Label: A small eyebrow tag that appears above the title (e.g., "Featured", "Signature Release", "Chef's Special"). Each template provides a default label, but you can customize it.
  • Title: The main heading (e.g., "Happy Hour", "Tonight's Special").
  • Description: A subtitle or explanatory text describing the promotion.
  • Value: A price or offer callout (e.g., "$29.95", "2 for 1", "50% off").
  • Image: Some templates support an optional photo for the promo card. If available, an image uploader appears below the other fields.

Tip: Use the label to set the tone

The label is the first thing guests read on the promo card. Keep it short and descriptive. "Limited Release", "Tonight Only", or "Small Batch" work well for setting urgency and personality.

Positioning your promo card

The promo card block is draggable, just like your menu sections. Grab the drag handle and move it to control where the promo card appears on your menu:

  • Before the first section: Drag the promo card to the top of the list. This works well for announcing a deal before guests see the full menu.
  • Between sections: Drop it between any two sections. For example, place it between "Mains" and "Desserts" to highlight a prix fixe option.
  • After the last section: Drag it to the bottom. Some templates use this position by default for a closing featured item or special.

Each template has a default position that works well with its layout. If you don't move the card, it stays in the template's recommended spot.

Hero images

Some templates support a hero image, a large photo that appears at the top of your menu. This is great for setting the mood and establishing your restaurant's visual identity.

If your template supports hero images, you'll find a photo uploader in Menu Settings. Upload your image and use the crop tool to fit the template's required aspect ratio.

Photo quality matters

Use high-resolution photos for hero images and featured slots. Low-resolution images may appear blurry when printed at 300 DPI. Aim for at least 1200px wide for the best results across digital and print.

Tips & frequently asked questions

My template doesn't show featured slots. Why?

Not all templates include featured slot support. If you want to use featured slots, switch to a template that includes them. Look for templates with photo support in the gallery.

Can I have a promo card and featured slots at the same time?

Yes, if your template supports both. They serve different purposes. Featured slots showcase individual dishes, while the promo card promotes a deal or special offer.

Can I move the promo card to a different spot on the menu?

Yes. The promo card block is fully draggable in the Structure panel. Grab the drag handle and drop it between any sections, at the very top, or at the bottom. The position is saved per menu and reflected in your PDF and image exports.

Where did the promo card settings go?

Promo card settings have moved from the right sidebar to the Structure panel on the left. You'll find the toggle, fields, and photo uploader inline on the promo card block, right alongside your menu sections.

What image formats are supported?

MenuSquared supports JPG, PNG, and WebP. For the best balance of quality and file size, use JPG for photographs and PNG for logos or graphics with transparency.
